Anti-smoking treaty could include advertising limits
"The World Health Organization is not in this for any vindictive reason against a particular industry it is simply trying to protect public health which is our central mandate," said Derek Yach, project manager for WHO's "Free Tobacco Initiative."'
Yach said the experts clarified key objectives for an agreement in their Vancouver meeting. The WHO wants the world's Health Ministers to decide in May whether to pursue an international convention to reduce free tobacco use. "The slower we take the more likely forces encouraged by the cheap tobacco industry are likely to mobilize against us," Yach told reporters.
