Lexington test market for reduced nitrosamines

Yesterday, Virginia-based cigarette company Star Scientific began the test-marketing in Lexington of a cigarette designed to transmit fewer cancer-causing ingredients to smokers.

"We're braving new worlds here," said Paul L. Perito, Star president and chairman.

If smokers take to it, the brand, which is named Advance, could have big financial and possible health benefits.

For one thing, it could revitalize the market for Kentucky burley.
