Rothmans, Benson & Hedges cigarettes company. is cutting 65 jobs from its Quebec City manufacturing operations as it drives to reduce operating costs. Eliminating the positions is expected to cut the company's annual operating expenses by about $6.5 million beginning in fiscal year, the tobacco company's majority owner, Rothmans Inc., said Thursday.
The cuts are expected to come into effect in October, resulting in savings of $2.9 million in the current fiscal year.
Voluntary retirements will account for 58 of the 65 positions.
The total program will result in a one-time $12.5-million charge for RBH for the first quarter, before taxes.
